FAQ

Questions about Curaçao

Do we need visas to stay in Curaçao?

US and Dutch passport holders can stay in Curaçao for up to 180 consecutive days per calendar year without a visa. Most other nationalities (EU, UK, Canada, Australia, and many more) can stay up to 90 days visa-free. All visitors must complete the free Digital Immigration Card online before travel. We will share the exact link and a step-by-step pre-arrival checklist once you enroll.

Is Curaçao safe for families?

Curaçao is widely considered one of the safest islands in the Caribbean. It is politically stable, economically secure, and family-friendly, with walkable neighborhoods and a strong sense of community. Willemstad, where our families live, is a UNESCO World Heritage city with excellent infrastructure. As with anywhere, we recommend standard precautions (secure valuables, be mindful at night), but most families find life here genuinely calm and welcoming.

What is the healthcare system like, and what if we need a doctor?

Curaçao has a modern healthcare system with well-equipped hospitals, private clinics, and English-speaking doctors. Pharmacies are widely available. Most routine family care (pediatric visits, urgent care, prescriptions) is affordable and accessible. For peace of mind, we strongly recommend travel insurance with medical coverage. Our team provides a local healthcare contact list during onboarding.

What currency is used, and are credit cards accepted?

The official currency is the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG), but US Dollars are widely accepted across the island, including at restaurants, shops, taxis, and markets. Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted nearly everywhere. ATMs are plentiful and dispense both ANG and USD.

Is the tap water drinkable?

Yes. Curaçao's tap water is desalinated seawater and is considered some of the cleanest and safest drinking water in the world. You can drink straight from the tap. No bottled water needed.

Is Curaçao in the hurricane belt?

No, and this is one of the island's quiet superpowers. Curaçao sits outside the Atlantic hurricane belt, which means year-round stable weather, consistent trade winds, and minimal risk of storm disruption to your stay. Our climate is sunny and dry with light breezes almost every day of the year.
