How We Learn
Curaçao is the classroom.
We build learning through real places, real people, and real life.
Place-based learning
At ÎleO, Curaçao is the classroom. We move beyond textbooks, learning through the island's culture, ecosystems, and everyday life.
Each week, we take learning on the road, from creative beach mornings to hands-on explorations at places like the Floating Market and the Curaçao Sea Aquarium, using the island's rich culture, marine life, and community spaces as our primary learning environment.
Creative Kids Day
A weekly experience blending outdoor discovery with hands-on expression. Through rotating themes like Beach Treasures and Little Explorers, children foster creative freedom and community through small group exploration.
The Rangers System
Four groups. One island classroom.
Every child at ÎleO is a Ranger: an explorer of the island, the classroom, and their own growing curiosity. We group children by developmental stage so each child learns alongside peers at a similar pace.

A sample month of excursions
One day a week, the classroom moves
Every Friday, Dushi, ÎleO, and Guia Rangers leave the museum to explore the island. Here's a sample month built around our anchor theme.
Monthly theme · Rangers: Exploring & MappingWeek 1 · Friday
Maps of home
Handelskade & Queen Emma Bridge
Rangers walk the historic waterfront of Willemstad, sketch the colorful Dutch facades, and ride the floating bridge as it swings open. Back home, each Ranger creates a map of their new neighborhood.
Week 2 · Friday
Under the sea
Curaçao Sea Aquarium & Dolphin Academy
Rangers explore the open-water tanks, meet the dolphins through the glass, and learn about coral reef restoration from the aquarium's marine team. Craft session: build your own reef diorama.
Week 3 · Friday
Island treasures
Curaçao Ostrich Farm
A desert-landscape morning in the eastern part of the island. Rangers feed ostriches, stand on their sturdy eggs, and learn how these African birds adapted to Curaçao. Nature journals come home full.
Week 4 · Friday
Market morning
The Floating Market & Punda
Rangers visit the Venezuelan fruit boats that have shaped Curaçao's food culture for generations, practice Papiamentu greetings with vendors, and return to create a market-day painting and a taste-test of a new fruit.
Themes rotate each cohort. Past themes include Rangers: Exploring & Mapping, Island Stories, and Wind, Water & Salt. Full calendars are shared with enrolled families before each cohort begins.
A Day in the Life
at ÎleO
Our daily flow is designed to balance structured discovery with the freedom to explore, creating a natural rhythm that honors the child's curiosity.
Morning Connection
We begin each day with a morning circle and mindfulness, followed by free play and interactive exploration at the Children’s Museum. This is a time for connection, building community, and preparing our minds for discovery.
Core Discovery
Literacy, numeracy, and STEM concepts are explored through hands-on projects and play. We use the island as our classroom, finding math in the architecture and science in the sea.
Community Lunch
A shared meal where children practice social skills, enjoy local flavors, and connect with their peers in a relaxed, communal setting.
STEM & Creative Discovery
The afternoon is dedicated to our second session of STEM or creative activities, followed by outdoor free play. We follow the path of curiosity through deep dives into our monthly themes and active exploration.
Reflection & Farewell
We close the day with a reflection circle, sharing our discoveries and preparing for the next day’s adventure. It’s a time to celebrate growth and connection.
Learning Without Pressure
ÎleO does not test or grade children. Instead, we support children through engaging experiences that encourage genuine interest and growth.
Families remain responsible for any formal homeschooling requirements. ÎleO supports enrichment and social development but does not replace a school and does not issue academic records.

FAQ
Questions about how we learn
What ages do you serve?
Our program welcomes children ages 3 to 13. We group children by developmental stage (ages 3–6, 7–10, and 11–13) so each child learns alongside peers at similar cognitive and social phases, while still connecting across age groups during community moments and excursions.
Limited space is available for children ages 1.5 to 3. If you have a younger child who you would like considered for our program, please mention this during your consultation. We review these placements carefully to ensure the environment is the right fit for your family.
How many families are in each cohort?
Each ÎleO cohort welcomes 6 to 10 families. We keep cohorts intentionally small to protect the quality of care, depth of community, and individual attention each child receives. This also means spots fill quickly, so early booking is encouraged.
A quick clarification on the word "cohort": each cohort lasts 30 days. Our cohort seasons run for three months (for example, Fall 2026 runs September through December), and families can choose to stay for a single 30-day cohort, two back-to-back cohorts, or the full three-month season. Most families are encouraged to stay the full season for the richest experience, but we welcome you to craft the rhythm that fits your life.
What is the educator-to-child ratio?
We maintain a 1:6 to 1:8 educator-to-child ratio, depending on age group. Younger children are grouped closer to 1:6, while older children are grouped closer to 1:8. Our ratios are designed to give every child meaningful attention while preserving the freedom for self-directed discovery.
Does ÎleO replace my child's school or curriculum?
No. ÎleO is an enrichment ecosystem, not a formal school. We do not issue academic records, transcripts, or grades. Families who are homeschooling or worldschooling remain responsible for their own curriculum, record-keeping, and any academic assessments required by their home jurisdiction. Many of our families use ÎleO as the cultural, social, and experiential side of their child's education, while managing academic curriculum separately.
Will my child get academic records or a report card?
ÎleO does not issue grades, tests, or academic transcripts. What we offer instead is a rich, experiential environment that nurtures your child's curiosity, creativity, and cultural awareness.
What parents do receive is a daily list of activities their children completed, including STEM projects, creative art, cultural explorations, and excursion highlights. Your child will come home regularly with the crafts, art, and projects they created that day, so you can see and celebrate their growth in real time.
If you need formal academic documentation for homeschool reporting or regulatory purposes, that remains the responsibility of your homeschool provider or your family's chosen curriculum.
Do you test or grade children?
No. ÎleO is built on the belief that children learn best without the pressure of testing or grading. We document growth through observation, conversation, and project-based discovery, sharing these reflections with parents informally throughout the cohort.
What happens on the weekly excursion day?
One day each week, the classroom moves out into the island. Children visit places like the Curaçao Sea Aquarium, the Floating Market, local art studios, the ostrich farm, historic Willemstad landmarks, and natural spaces across the island.
At each excursion, children engage in hands-on art and craft activities inspired by what they discover that day, so the learning doesn't end when the trip does. Your child will come home with something they created, a memory they can hold. Each excursion connects to our monthly learning theme, so children are experiencing the island as an active part of their education, not as a one-off field trip.
How do we get to the learning center each day?
We provide a dedicated bus that picks children up at 7:30 AM from designated points close to our homes, and drops them back at 2:30 PM. This means parents can start their work day without worrying about morning school runs.
What if my child has food allergies or dietary needs?
We work closely with every family during consultation to understand dietary requirements. Our optional meal plan accommodates common allergies and preferences (vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, etc.). For complex medical needs, please let us know early so we can ensure a safe and supportive environment for your child.
What if my child has additional learning needs or an IEP?
Our founder comes from a special education background and our program is inclusive by design. That said, ÎleO is not a clinical or therapeutic program. We are happy to discuss your child's needs during consultation and be transparent about whether our environment is the right fit. We do not provide one-on-one aides, therapy, or medical support services.
