About the Program
What is ÎleO exactly: a school, a camp, or something else?
ÎleO is a learning ecosystem, not a school. We support families who are homeschooling, worldschooling, or looking for a flexible, culturally rich learning environment for their children. Our program provides place-based enrichment, a vibrant daily rhythm, community connection, and fully managed housing and coworking, all rooted in Curaçao. Families remain responsible for their own formal homeschooling curriculum or academic requirements. ÎleO is the village around your family while you live and learn abroad.
What ages do you serve?
Our program welcomes children ages 3 to 13. We group children by developmental stage (ages 3–6, 7–10, and 11–13) so each child learns alongside peers at similar cognitive and social phases, while still connecting across age groups during community moments and excursions.
Limited space is available for children ages 1.5 to 3. If you have a younger child who you would like considered for our program, please mention this during your consultation. We review these placements carefully to ensure the environment is the right fit for your family.
How many families are in each cohort?
Each ÎleO cohort welcomes 6 to 10 families. We keep cohorts intentionally small to protect the quality of care, depth of community, and individual attention each child receives. This also means spots fill quickly, so early booking is encouraged.
A quick clarification on the word "cohort": each cohort lasts 30 days. Our cohort seasons run for three months (for example, Fall 2026 runs September through December), and families can choose to stay for a single 30-day cohort, two back-to-back cohorts, or the full three-month season. Most families are encouraged to stay the full season for the richest experience, but we welcome you to craft the rhythm that fits your life.
What is the educator-to-child ratio?
We maintain a 1:6 to 1:8 educator-to-child ratio, depending on age group. Younger children are grouped closer to 1:6, while older children are grouped closer to 1:8. Our ratios are designed to give every child meaningful attention while preserving the freedom for self-directed discovery.
Does ÎleO replace my child's school or curriculum?
No. ÎleO is an enrichment ecosystem, not a formal school. We do not issue academic records, transcripts, or grades. Families who are homeschooling or worldschooling remain responsible for their own curriculum, record-keeping, and any academic assessments required by their home jurisdiction. Many of our families use ÎleO as the cultural, social, and experiential side of their child's education, while managing academic curriculum separately.
Will my child get academic records or a report card?
ÎleO does not issue grades, tests, or academic transcripts. What we offer instead is a rich, experiential environment that nurtures your child's curiosity, creativity, and cultural awareness.
What parents do receive is a daily list of activities their children completed, including STEM projects, creative art, cultural explorations, and excursion highlights. Your child will come home regularly with the crafts, art, and projects they created that day, so you can see and celebrate their growth in real time.
If you need formal academic documentation for homeschool reporting or regulatory purposes, that remains the responsibility of your homeschool provider or your family's chosen curriculum.
What languages are spoken in the program?
English is the primary language of instruction. However, children are immersed in Curaçao's beautifully multilingual culture: they will hear and encounter Papiamentu, Dutch, and Spanish naturally through our field trips, partnerships, and everyday island life.
Papiamentu words will naturally flow through many of our activities, and we offer dedicated workshops for children who want to learn more of the language. Our hope is that by the end of a cohort, every child leaves with a handful of Papiamentu phrases and a genuine appreciation for the island's linguistic heritage.
Do you test or grade children?
No. ÎleO is built on the belief that children learn best without the pressure of testing or grading. We document growth through observation, conversation, and project-based discovery, sharing these reflections with parents informally throughout the cohort.
Cohorts & Scheduling
When are the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 cohort seasons?
Our Fall 2026 cohort season runs September 1 through December 2, with arrivals beginning Saturday, August 29 to give families time to settle in before the program begins.
Within this season, families can book a single 30-day cohort, two back-to-back cohorts, or the full three-month season. Our Winter 2027 cohort season dates will be announced soon. Join our mailing list or book a consultation to be notified first.
Can I join for less than a full cohort season?
Yes, our program is designed with flexibility in mind. The full cohort season is three months, and this is what we encourage for families who want the complete cultural, educational, and community experience. However, we welcome families who can only stay for 30 to 90 days.
Stays shorter than 30 days are considered on a very limited basis, for families who truly want to join but cannot commit to a full month. Here's how we allocate spots:
- First priority: full 3-month (full season) families
- Second priority: 1-month (single cohort) families
- Third priority (if space remains): shorter stays, case by case
Book a consultation and we'll work with you to find the right fit.
Can we extend our stay between cohort seasons?
Yes, many families choose to extend. Curaçao's relaxed entry rules make this easy (US passport holders can stay up to 180 consecutive days per calendar year without a residence permit). We can help coordinate extended housing and community access between cohort seasons. Talk to us during your consultation.
What holidays are observed during the program?
The learning program observes select Curaçao public holidays and a short mid-season break. You will receive the full program calendar upon enrollment so you can plan family travel, visitors, or personal trips with ease.
What happens on the weekly excursion day?
One day each week, the classroom moves out into the island. Children visit places like the Curaçao Sea Aquarium, the Floating Market, local art studios, the ostrich farm, historic Willemstad landmarks, and natural spaces across the island.
At each excursion, children engage in hands-on art and craft activities inspired by what they discover that day, so the learning doesn't end when the trip does. Your child will come home with something they created, a memory they can hold. Each excursion connects to our monthly learning theme, so children are experiencing the island as an active part of their education, not as a one-off field trip.
Pricing & Payment
What is included in the Full Immersion bundle?
The Full Immersion bundle is designed for families who want a completely handled experience. It includes:
- The 5-day learning program for your child(ren)
- Curated, professionally managed housing in Willemstad
- Community access (includes coworking, welcome dinner, meetups, and support)
- Airport pickup and arrival logistics
- Optional meal plan ($300/child/month)
- A 10% bundle discount applied to your total
There is also a one-time registration fee of $250 per child. This is paid once, whenever you book your first ÎleO experience, and from that moment on your family has a welcome spot in our community. As the program grows, enrolled families will always have priority access to future cohorts and seasons.
You focus on being present with your family. We handle everything else.
What is the difference between Full Immersion and Local / Independent?
Full Immersion is for families arriving from abroad who want the complete ÎleO experience: housing, community, coworking, airport logistics, and the learning program all bundled together.
Local / Independent is for families already living in Curaçao, or those who have arranged their own housing, who want to join the learning program and community. This option focuses on the educational and community elements only.
We prioritize Full Immersion families for each cohort, with a limited number of Local / Independent spots available subject to capacity and community balance.
When are payments due, and can I pay in installments?
A non-refundable deposit is due at booking to secure your family's spot. The remaining balance is payable in installments on a schedule we confirm with you during consultation. Typical installment structures are:
- Deposit: due at booking (non-refundable)
- Second installment: due 120 days before cohort start
- Final installment: due 60 days before cohort start
We work with each family individually to make the payment rhythm manageable.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Your deposit is non-refundable. The remaining balance is refundable up to 60 days before your cohort start date. Cancellations made within 60 days of the start date may be eligible for a credit toward a future cohort, at our discretion. Full details are outlined in your booking agreement. We strongly recommend travel insurance to protect your investment.
Are there sibling discounts?
Yes. Tuition is discounted for additional children:
- 2nd child: 5% off tuition
- 3rd child: 10% off tuition
- 4th child: 15% off tuition
- 5th child: 20% off tuition
- 6th child and beyond: 25% off tuition
Discounts apply to the program fee per child and are reflected automatically in the Craft Your Stay calculator.
Is travel insurance included or required?
Travel insurance is not included but is strongly recommended for every family. We ask that all families carry medical and trip cancellation insurance for the duration of their stay. Your health, your children's safety, and your financial investment all matter, and good travel insurance protects all three.
Are flights included?
Flights are not included. Families book their own travel to Hato International Airport (CUR) in Curaçao. We coordinate airport pickup on arrival as part of your Full Immersion package. Most families fly in from the US East Coast (direct flights from Miami, JFK, Charlotte, and Newark), or via Amsterdam from Europe.
Housing & Logistics
Where will we live, and how close will we be to other families?
Every ÎleO family lives in the heart of Willemstad. Some families stay in the same building, while others may be 10 to 15 minutes away from each other, all within a walkable radius of our coworking space, cafés, the floating market, and everyday life.
Housing is offered at different price points based on size, location, and amenities, so families can choose what fits their budget. We'll share a clear baseline starting price during consultation, along with options that work for your family size and preferences.
This intentional proximity creates what we call a natural collective: kids running between homes, spontaneous coffees, shared dinners. You'll have your private space, but community is always just a few steps away.
Can I bring my pet?
We do not allow pets in our managed housing at this time. We understand how hard it can be to leave a beloved pet behind, and we recommend planning early for trusted care at home. That said, we are always open to a conversation. If your family has a service animal or special circumstances, please mention this during your consultation and we will do our best to find a thoughtful solution together.
Is there air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and laundry in the homes?
Yes. Every home includes air conditioning in the bedrooms, dedicated fiber-optic high-speed Wi-Fi, in-home laundry, a fully equipped kitchen, linens, towels, and regular cleaning service. We want you to feel settled from the moment you walk in.
How do we get to the learning center each day?
We provide a dedicated bus that picks children up at 7:30 AM from designated points close to our homes, and drops them back at 2:30 PM. This means parents can start their work day without worrying about morning school runs.
Do I need to rent a car?
It's not required, but many families choose to. Willemstad is highly walkable: homes, cafés, playgrounds, the floating market, and the coworking space are all within walking distance. For weekend beach trips and excursions beyond the city, a rental car is helpful. We can arrange discounted rentals through our local partners.
Can we choose our own apartment, or will you assign one?
It's a combination. During your consultation, we gather your family's needs (size, preferences, budget, accessibility) and pre-match you with a home from our curated collection. Final selection is coordinated together before arrival so you know exactly where you're going.
Are utilities (water, electricity, internet) included?
Yes, water, electricity, and high-speed fiber internet are all included in your housing cost. Each home has a reasonable monthly usage allowance, and in the rare cases where usage significantly exceeds that allowance (for example, running AC in every room around the clock), additional fees may apply. For the vast majority of our families, everyday use is fully covered and there are no surprise utility bills.
Family Life & Community
What if my child has food allergies or dietary needs?
We work closely with every family during consultation to understand dietary requirements. Our optional meal plan accommodates common allergies and preferences (vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, etc.). For complex medical needs, please let us know early so we can ensure a safe and supportive environment for your child.
What if my child has additional learning needs or an IEP?
Our founder comes from a special education background and our program is inclusive by design. That said, ÎleO is not a clinical or therapeutic program. We are happy to discuss your child's needs during consultation and be transparent about whether our environment is the right fit. We do not provide one-on-one aides, therapy, or medical support services.
Are grandparents or visiting family members allowed to join?
Yes. We love welcoming visiting family members. Short visits to the community and coworking spaces are generally permitted. For extended visits (more than one week), we ask that guests be registered with us so we can maintain a consistent experience for all families.
Is there childcare available for evenings or date nights?
We maintain a list of trusted, vetted local babysitters who many of our families use regularly. This is arranged privately between your family and the sitter, but we are happy to share our recommendations during onboarding.
What happens if my child is sick?
If your child is unwell, we ask that they stay home to rest and prevent spreading illness. Our team will support you with recommendations for trusted local pediatricians and pharmacies. Curaçao has excellent medical facilities, including private clinics and hospitals, all within a short drive of our homes.
Life in Curaçao
Do we need visas to stay in Curaçao?
US and Dutch passport holders can stay in Curaçao for up to 180 consecutive days per calendar year without a visa. Most other nationalities (EU, UK, Canada, Australia, and many more) can stay up to 90 days visa-free. All visitors must complete the free Digital Immigration Card online before travel. We will share the exact link and a step-by-step pre-arrival checklist once you enroll.
Is Curaçao safe for families?
Curaçao is widely considered one of the safest islands in the Caribbean. It is politically stable, economically secure, and family-friendly, with walkable neighborhoods and a strong sense of community. Willemstad, where our families live, is a UNESCO World Heritage city with excellent infrastructure. As with anywhere, we recommend standard precautions (secure valuables, be mindful at night), but most families find life here genuinely calm and welcoming.
What is the healthcare system like, and what if we need a doctor?
Curaçao has a modern healthcare system with well-equipped hospitals, private clinics, and English-speaking doctors. Pharmacies are widely available. Most routine family care (pediatric visits, urgent care, prescriptions) is affordable and accessible. For peace of mind, we strongly recommend travel insurance with medical coverage. Our team provides a local healthcare contact list during onboarding.
What currency is used, and are credit cards accepted?
The official currency is the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG), but US Dollars are widely accepted across the island, including at restaurants, shops, taxis, and markets. Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted nearly everywhere. ATMs are plentiful and dispense both ANG and USD.
Is the tap water drinkable?
Yes. Curaçao's tap water is desalinated seawater and is considered some of the cleanest and safest drinking water in the world. You can drink straight from the tap. No bottled water needed.
What should we pack?
You'll receive a full pre-arrival packing list after you enroll, but the short version:
- Lightweight, breathable clothing (cotton, linen), since it's warm year-round
- Reef-safe sunscreen (required by law on many beaches)
- Swimsuits, beach towels, water shoes
- A light jacket or sweater (for air-conditioned spaces and occasional cool evenings)
- Reusable water bottles
- Any prescriptions in original packaging, with extra supply
- Chargers and any US/EU plug adapters (Curaçao uses both 110V and 127V with US-style plugs)
Homes come fully stocked with linens, towels, kitchen essentials, and toiletries, so travel light.
Is Curaçao in the hurricane belt?
No, and this is one of the island's quiet superpowers. Curaçao sits outside the Atlantic hurricane belt, which means year-round stable weather, consistent trade winds, and minimal risk of storm disruption to your stay. Our climate is sunny and dry with light breezes almost every day of the year.
What's the cell phone and data situation?
Local SIM cards and eSIMs are widely available and inexpensive. Most US carriers (T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T) offer international plans that work in Curaçao. Wi-Fi is excellent across the island: in homes, cafés, restaurants, and our coworking space. We share recommended mobile providers in your onboarding materials.
Working Remotely
How reliable is the Wi-Fi and internet?
Very reliable. Every ÎleO home is equipped with dedicated fiber-optic internet, and our coworking partner offers commercial-grade fiber with backup connectivity. Curaçao has invested heavily in digital infrastructure to serve its growing remote worker community, and we've selected our spaces specifically for their reliability.
What time zone is Curaçao in?
Curaçao is on Atlantic Standard Time (UTC−4) year-round and does not observe Daylight Saving Time. In summer, Curaçao matches US Eastern Time exactly. In winter, Curaçao is one hour ahead of US Eastern Time. For European families, Curaçao is five hours behind Central European Time in winter and six hours behind in summer. This makes it especially easy to work with US clients and teams.
Is the coworking space included for both parents?
Community Access is priced per adult, per month, and pricing varies by season (Fall 2026 is the off-season rate; Winter 2027 carries our peak Carnival-season rate). Once Community Access is paid for a parent, everything is included: coworking, welcome dinner, weekly community events, private call rooms, and parent circles. Both parents in a family typically enroll, though it is not required if only one parent will use the space. The Craft Your Stay calculator shows the live rate for each season.
Can I have private calls and meetings from the coworking space?
Yes. Our coworking partner offers private call rooms and quiet zones specifically for video meetings and focused deep work. You can book private rooms in advance or use open phone booths for quick calls. There's also a meeting room for team syncs or client presentations.
Is 24/7 coworking access available?
Standard Community Access covers business hours. 24/7 access is available as an optional add-on for families who need to sync with global time zones or prefer early-morning or late-night work sessions. Talk to us during your consultation about whether this is right for your workflow.
Application & Fit
How do I apply, and is there a vetting process?
The process is simple and conversational:
- Start by submitting a consultation request through our Craft Your Stay page.
- We schedule a 30-minute call to learn about your family, answer questions, and confirm fit.
- If aligned, we send you a booking proposal with personalized housing and pricing.
- You secure your spot with a non-refundable deposit, and we begin pre-arrival onboarding together.
Yes, we do review all placements for community alignment and fit, not to exclude but to protect the experience for every family in the cohort.
What makes a family a good fit for ÎleO?
Families who thrive at ÎleO tend to share a few qualities:
- They see learning as something that unfolds throughout the day, not just in a classroom
- They value community, curiosity, and cultural openness
- They are homeschooling, worldschooling, or seeking flexible educational environments
- They work remotely or run location-flexible businesses
- They are ready to participate in community life, not just consume it
- They respect the pace, people, and culture of the island
If this sounds like your family, you're likely a great fit. Let's talk.
Can single parents join?
Absolutely. We welcome families of every structure: single parents, co-parents, blended families, extended families. Community is central to what we do, and single-parent families often tell us the ÎleO model is especially supportive because they're not navigating this alone.
Do both parents need to be on-island, or can one parent travel back and forth?
Only one parent needs to be on-island. We understand that many families have one partner who travels for work, has client commitments, or simply prefers a flexible schedule. As long as one parent is present with the enrolled children, the other is welcome to come and go as needed.
How far in advance should I apply?
As early as possible. Because our cohorts are limited to 6–10 families, spots tend to fill quickly, especially for Fall and Winter, our most popular seasons. We recommend booking at least 4–6 months before your desired cohort start date. If you're interested in Fall 2026, reach out now to secure your place.
